Texting and driving is set to become illegal in South Dakota, a decision that put to bed years of disagreement between the House of Representatives and the State Senate. If signed by the state's governor the bill will be law, making texting and driving a petty offense resulting in a $100 fine. However, drivers will be ticketed for SMS messaging offenses only if pulled over for another traffic violation.
