For the past decade or so, enterprise technology decision-makers trended away from legacy end-to-end software and towards a disparate set of best of breed applications, or as some have dubbed it: Postmodern ERP. In many ways, we have the cloud to blame. The cloud promised to free up IT organizations from managing multiple complex systems built on rigid infrastructure. It also promised line of business leaders the freedom to choose solutions that best fit their groups' needs without having to rely on technical expertise. It was, in their eyes, the key to transformation.
