For a long time, futurists like Webb have imagined models or scenarios of "distributed work"-the idea that technology will allow workers to contribute from wherever they choose to be. Instead of planning for the future of work, workers and organizations are evolving, fitfully, in real time during the pandemic. While some were ready for this transition, many others were not. But Webb believes the response to the pandemic will ultimately accelerate positive change in work.
