Data managers have a number of responsibilities. But at a high level, they are generally responsible for defining how clinical study data will be collected, and managed, in relation to the intake and quality of the data throughout the trial. Their goal is to deliver high quality data in a usable format to the appropriate downstream processes -- such as statistical analyses -- on time and within budget. While this sounds simple enough, it has become an increasingly challenging task for a number of reasons, such as changes in technologies, processes, regulations, and the growing complexity and diversity of the data.
