My love of narrative nonfiction and fascination with the power stories have to connect people has bridged 20 years of cumulative experience as a writer, editor, communications and marketing strategist, PR leader, people manager, and writing instructor.
My writing has been published in dozens of literary and news outlets, and in my current role I oversee the strategic direction for communications, marketing, and PR for a 115-person digital services business based in Washington, DC.
My second book, Riverine, won the 2014 Graywolf Press Nonfiction Prize, was a Kirkus Best Book of 2016, was short-listed for the Vermont Book Award, Indiana Emerging Author Award, the Stanford Library Soroyan International Writing Prize in Nonfiction, and was selected by Oprah.com as a top Powerful Memoir by Powerful Women of 2016.
I'm driven by a commitment to promoting equity and equality, and I am always looking for the next opportunity to work behind the scenes to help launch new endeavors that connect and engage people in my local community and across the nation.
