Launching a Free Product to a Skeptical Customer Base: The PLG Journey at TrustCloud

TL;DR: As a Growth Product Director & player coach, I help companies scale by mapping SEO and viral growth loops, modeling B2B2C growth levers, driving activation rates, conducting rapid experimentations on retention strategies, and hosting company-Hackathons.

I hired and managed 3 Growth Product Managers, each on acquisition, conversion onboarding, and retention. I led cross-functional team of 20 people (3 Growth PMs, 4 Engineers, CRO consultant, SEO consultant, community engagement manager, growth marketing manager, 2 content editors, 2 content researchers, and 5 content writers)

HIGHLIGHTS:

1. SEO Growth #1: The May 2020 algorithm updates impacted direct competitors (HealthUnlocked and PatientsLikeMe) and their organic traffic plummeted from YMYL. Inspire received stronger traffic bounce back, and now leads with a higher organic keyword portfolio. 2. SEO Growth #2: The Unsplash team focused on product-led SEO and increased traffics by 5x between 2017 to 2018 (1mil to 5mil). Unsplash continued to grow organic traffic to 18mil - now ranking higher than direct competitors Pexels, and Pixabay - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dHOp8Ov_xlRYO51O-gG-SLU9QRzybgoO/view?usp=sharing. I led the "wallpaper" product-line, which resulted in SERP Page #1. "Wallpapers" or "Backgrounds" made up 5 of the top 10 Unsplash keywords and with a combined search volume of over 3 million. 3. Viral Referral Growth #1: At Unsplash, the team and I built the “Thank you” feature - downloader can tweet to photographer, and give credit & photo source. This created a Creator—Growth loop that drove 10% w-o-w growth in both Social and Referral traffic in 2017.

4. Viral Invite Growth #2: Modeled K-Value.

1. Growing social networks: I led user growth at Inspire and Unsplash. I oversaw organic acquisition (Content SEO, Technical SEO, Virality, Conversions) and retention (Lifecycle, email, in-app, triggered emails).

2. Product Cofounder: I cofounded OzContent, helping content marketers unlock storytelling at scale. I oversaw the tech architecture and product vision at Oz, where we data blend social media feeds with NLP algorithms and SEO keywords into a content ideation product. I hired and led a remote data science and engineering team across three timezones.
