I have a PhD in English literature and a gift with words that allows me to create content that is both engaging and clear. I rarely find it necessary to sacrifice either personality or precision. In addition, my background in academia gives me experience in researching and synthesizing complex material in order to teach students of various levels and identities. Whether by writing, editing, or designing comprehensive courses, I have enabled diverse audiences to consume material across digital channels. I’m happy to do this independently or as part of a team, and I will always step in as much as needed to ensure high quality for clients.

I am teaching fitness classes on a part-time basis, and I am now actively looking for temporary, freelance, or direct hire opportunities. You can check out my portfolio at https://mksmithfreelance.wordpress.com.

A few of my achievements include:
• Creative & Non-fiction Writing - performed research, analyzed anecdotal insights, created characters, outlined the pieces, and wrote the final works. (Writing Experience: short-stories, plays, essays, novels, blogs)
• Editing - analyzed pieces, applied editorial standards, utilized knowledge of citation styles, provided content recommendations, and leveraged strong expertise of the English language to engage audiences. (Editorial Experience: product information, educational, creative pieces, grant applications, business writing, and marketing materials).
• Research - compiled data from multiple sources, analyzed and validated findings, benchmarked insights, and prepared reports or written works applying MLA or Chicago styles. (Topics Researched: literature, drama, theology, history, health and wellness, fitness, pedagogy)
• Instructional Design - performed research, crafted lectures, created interactive learning opportunities, collaborated with subject matter experts, and presented materials to students of varying abilities. (Curriculum or Trainings Created: fitness classes and collegiate level coursework)
