At eighteen I left college with an abundance of ideas but no actual idea of where to take them. I was working at my local supermarket at the time and had recently been made a Duty Manager; the pay was good; I enjoyed the job; and the long shifts were made up for by the people I worked with.
After working in this role for three years, it was time for a change; time to dip my toes back into creative waters as I made the dive into the freelance world of Marketing, PR & Events Management alongside my studies at University. As I opened myself up to new beginnings, the doors that stood in front of me also followed suit.
✨ Since trusting my gut and making my leap, I have had the opportunity to work with Ways With Words, Exeter Literary Festival, theatres and theatre companies across Devon, The Mint Press, University of Plymouth Press as well as completing a Marketing and Publicity Placement at Penguin Random House.
✨ I also recently joined the team at Big Star Copywriting as their new Social Media Manager.
Last year, in the light of Covid-19 and the impact it has had on the creative industries, I decided to continue to grasp the opportunities at my feet by making my own.
💫 I founded Disgraceful Magazine to support women in business and female entrepreneurs as we create and grow a community that sets out to claim back space in a world where women are expected to do the opposite. Today, Disgraceful boasts a combined readership of over 20,000 globally, across digital and in-print.
An idea I had in lockdown queue for Tesco, has become a powerhouse of a publication that I am excited to nurture and grow as we continue with Issue Five and beyond!
My life changed when I started to trust in my ideas and creativity. I actively look for work experience and placement roles within marketing, PR and events management as I look forward to finishing my degree so I can continue to nurture my career within the creative industries.
