Founder of Henning, acquired by Universal Standard
Lauren Chan is a size inclusion advocate who began her career as a plus-size model alongside women like Ashley Graham and Precious Lee at New York City's Ford Models. When she wasn’t working with clients like Vera Wang or Christian Siriano, Chan also worked as a fashion writer, having work published at institutions like Vogue, Interview, and the New York Times' T Magazine.
She later landed at Glamour as the fashion features editor, where she oversaw the fashion news team, covered the womenswear market, and personally owned the plus-size fashion beat. Chan's feats during that time include a print column and digital vertical on size inclusion, designing the Glamour x Lane Bryant clothing collection, appearances on Good Morning America and the Today Show, and speaking at events put on by organizations spanning from Instagram and the Wing to the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Most recently, Chan started Henning, a brand of ethical luxury womenswear for women size 12 and up. In their exclusive launch coverage, Vogue said, "[Chan] addressed the complexities of fashion’s relationship with size early on in her career, and now her contemporary womenswear brand, Henning, is taking things one step further." Other fanfare for Henning can be seen in the New York Times, Forbes, Business of Fashion, WWD, Elle, InStyle, the Cut, and more.
For her work as a journalist, entrepreneur, and size inclusion activist, Chan is the recipient of honors and awards from the American Society of Magazine Editors, Condé Nast, the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards, the CFDA/Vogue Fashioin Fund, Create & Cultivate, and more. Of her accomplishments, ASME said, "Chan is a one-woman multi-media age force for change, raising awareness about size acceptance and body positivity through her work as both an editor and entrepreneur."
She has also been featured as an influencer in campaigns for clients like Valentino, Chanel, Google, J.Crew, Old Navy, Rent the Runway, Anthropologie, Adidas, and more. Outside of work, Chan serves as an ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association, an Advisory Board Member for the Model Alliance, a jury member for the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards, and a guest lecturer at the country's top fashion universities, including Parsons, NYU, FIT, and SCAD.
