My high school guidance counselor’s career advice was, “Daphne, girls like you don’t go to college. I recommend you go to secretary school.”
…This was despite a 4.0 GPA.
I graduated from high school, and after a month of being a secretary at Women’s Day Magazine, I realized I shouldn’t be a secretary; I should have one.
Shortly after that, I got my BS degree and my MBA, transforming the negative energy of my counselor’s predictions and biases and using it as an agent to spur achievement.
Since then, I’ve worked for some of the world’s most recognizable companies—IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Hospira (now part of Pfizer), and General Electric– in roles varying from systems engineer at IBM, director, executive director, vice president, corporate officer, chief information officer, and senior vice president.
I implemented and scaled global technology to help companies WIN.
My mission?
To help professional women break through similar barriers – whether internal or external – and win when others say they won’t.
I also advise organizations to break down barriers to spur organizational change and digital transformation.
