But I struggled as a first-time BDR 📞

No major improvement when I got promoted to AE!

As much as 40% of my pipeline were regularly unqualified duds. 📈☹️

But I didn't know any better. Nobody helped me and I didn’t ask for help. 🤷‍♂️

I was making sketchy calls and ramming unqualified leads into the CRM.

I thought I was a rockstar.

That was until just before quarter-end, when my field sales guy went to a string of meetings I had set up.

He found that they were mostly hot air …and I was in trouble. 😬

Naturally, he read me the riot act. I deserved his wrath.

I got a written warning and was just about clinging onto my job.

Then I got some proper sales training and applied what I learned.

Results at last.. 💲

But it wasn't until Matt - a senior AE I looked up to - actually coached me that my luck changed.

In fact, coaching didn't just help my sales.

It helped me as a person.

When I was promoted to Sales Manager, I promptly forgot what I had learned.

I became a boss. 🥸

I made myself the center of control.

Once again, I was struggling.

I lost three of my team because they thought I was a control freak and I resented them big time.

It was only when I was reminded of the power of coaching that things changed.

🔹I became a better listener
🔹I became a better leader
🔹I became a better salesperson

And I got more than from my team than I would ever have by being the boss.

I loved coaching so much that people asked me to coach their teams🤩

It's why I wrote a book on Sales Coaching 📕 praised by Mike Weinberg, Matt Dixon and sales leaders around the world.

I have never been a Sales Director or a VP of Sales

I probably wouldn't make the cut!
